Club History and Features
During February 2005 John Wells of Maclean Rotary called a meeting of seniors to gauge support for the proposed formation of a Seniors Computer Club. Approx 26 people attended and agreed to form a steering Committee to establish a Club. The steering committee was sponsored by Maclean Rotary and after advice and guidelines from ASCCA incorporation and name registration was obtained. By June 2005 things were beginning to look good with Rotary receiving 10 pre loved Council Computers and negotiations for the use of a Showground Pavilion progressing well. In July 2005 the steering Committee was wound up and the C.V.S.C.C inc. was formed with our Club room being in the Maclean Showground Pavilion. For the remainder of 2005 our Club went from strength to strength. Our sessions planned for 2 days a week soon increased to 4 days and a membership of over 60. In April 2006 our Club approached the Council for a more suitable Building and was pleasantly surprised with the offer of the former Council chambers rooms and after an affordable rental agreement a lease was signed. Council provided us with most furniture and the use of the Internet service was a tremendous boost for the Club. With a membership of over 100 now and training Sessions being held 5 days a week except for Public & School Holidays we are now satisfying our objectives by providing this much needed service to our community. We appreciate the assistance given to us by Maclean Rotary, Clarence Valley Council and our hard working volunteer Tutors. Our Management Committee meets on the second Thursday of each month and members are welcome to attend. With 10 Computers networked our class size at present is limited to this number. However we try to accommodate all interested members with extra sessions.

Seniors working with computers

Clarence Valley Seniors Computer Club is offering members the choice of 15 x 2 hour lessons per week Monday to Friday, with special workshops on Saturdays. Members have a whole year to learn within one annual membership payment of $15.00, plus a one off $10.00 joining fee. Lessons cost $5.00 each which includes a tea/coffee break. Members or new members seeking information whilst the club is closed can contact 66452313 or 66452887. All other information can be found on the club's website: www.cvsccmaclean.org.au or phone the office 66454005 during business hours 9am to 4pm. Bob MacPherson.

The club management is appealing to members to volunteer their help with reception duties during lesson times

These duties are simply, answering the phone and overseeing the sign-on and out attendance book, balancing lesson money and writing receipts.

Reception duties will operate on a roster basis and members are asked to put their name down at the reception desk at the club.

We also desperately need Leaders to relieve the workload of current Leaders that are conducting 3 and up to 4 classes a week. A volunteer Leader that does not meet membership criteria ( i.e. not old enough for membership ) will be made a Honorary member. A Leader in our organization does not require certification. They merely have to be computer literate and feel confident they are capable of passing on their skills to Club Members.

The Senior's Computer Club is located next door to Tursa Employment & Training at 48 River Street, just up the hill from the Maclean Post Office. Entry into the club is through the main entrance, turn right and down a couple of steps. The Clubhouse is air conditioned and the Computer Class room has a Server computer linked to 5 LCD monitors placed between every second computer on a 10 computer network. If members wish to bring their laptop computer to the club there is provision for this with a table for 2 laptops with a Server monitor.

The club contact details are PO Box 354 Maclean NSW 2463.
